Spring is very much in evidence now and it’s certainly a very exciting time of year, watching everything come back to life after a long hard winter.

Springtime represents new beginnings and fresh starts, so it’s the perfect time to think about giving your home a good once over, getting into all those neglected nooks and crannies, and making the house sparkle from top to bottom.

Not only will spring cleaning cleanse your mind and soul, it also does wonders for your house, of course – and it’s a great opportunity to check to see if you have any lurking creepy crawlies around and about, which could potentially turn into a nasty infestation if you don’t nip it in the proverbial bud first.

Going through your kitchen cupboards and giving them a thorough wipe down, sealing any open packets, wiping up any crumbs and relining the shelves with paper, can help keep silverfish, rats, mice and ants at bay.

Cupboards can easily get very clogged with debris over the course of the year, so taking the time to wipe them down properly can make a big difference where household pests are concerned.

In the bathroom, meanwhile, really go to town on the fixtures and fittings, checking to see if you have any damp spots building up that could prove attractive to cockroaches. They love moisture and can soon take up residence if they find a constant water source.

Repairing any leaks you might have without knowing about it can also help save you money – and prevent water wastage – so it’s a win-win for everyone… except for the cockroaches, of course!

As part of your spring cleaning regime, you could also take the time to properly pest proof your house. This could include sealing any cracks you find, repairing screens, covering your chimneys with mesh to deter squirrels and covering any vents to keep bees, wasps and rodents outside where they belong.
