Squirrels have become a serious problem when they take residence in a loft space. They will make a large amount of noise and usually can cause more damage than rats or mice. They will gain entry to loft spaces to either breed or take shelter.

A male squirrel will have several days (nests) with their territory – sometimes they are in trees, but buildings make safe, warmer and drier nest sites. squirrels are often found in gardens and can-do damage to trees, plants, bulbs and even eat birds’ eggs and even young birds.

A lot of damage can happen when Squirrels enter a loft space, they can cause structural damage by tearing up loft insulation for bedding, chewing pipes, timbers and even any stored items. Most worrying is they pose a fire hazard by chewing the insulation from electrical wiring and/or chewing through the actual wires which can cause fires or expensive electrical problems.

They tend to be very noisy, particularly early in the mornings, and they have been known to drown in uncovered water storage tanks, which can contaminate your water supply.

It is also worth noting that Grey squirrels are classed as Vermin/Pests, they are also directly responsible for the decline in the native Red squirrels. It is also illegal to release a trapped Grey squirrel back into the environment.
