There can be no denying that summertime is a particularly lovely time of year, but it does bring with it some unfortunate inconveniences, such as an increase in wasp populations.
Of course, wasps are important pollinators and we’re very grateful to have them from an ecosystem point of view (they’re helping to keep us alive, after all!), but they can be troublesome, especially if population numbers increase beyond a certain point.
This year has been dubbed the Year of the Wasp, so chances are that you have started seeing more of these insects in your gardens and while you’re out and about.
It’s thought that this surge in numbers could, in fact, be one of the worst and most drawn out that the UK has ever seen, thanks to the heatwave we saw back in July.
Typically, wasps build nests during the spring in attics, below ground and in trees, with bad weather in summer and autumn helping to reduce their chances of survival beyond the summer months.
But the prolonged warm and dry weather could give wasps the ideal conditions they need to multiply… and a plague of wasps could soon be a reality for much of the country!
If you do suddenly find yourself with a wasp invasion and aren’t sure what to do, get in touch with us here at The Exterminator Pest Control to discuss wasp nest removal.
Never attempt to deal with nests yourself, as you could be stung and these stings can be fatal if you have an allergic reaction. We provide an out-of-hours pest control service, with no callout fee 24 hours a day, 365 days of the year.
